Most of my job at Xceptor was working out what people actually needed. A client would describe what their old system did, some of it documented and some of it only in someone's head, and I turned that into a spec, then into configuration and SQL that had to behave the same way in production.

Before that I taught Python and robotics to children and ran shifts in a shop, so I had plenty of practice explaining things and managing people before I learned any SQL. I also crochet, which is where the thread down the side of this page came from.

  • Built a market data workflow end to end, from request submission through the Bloomberg REST API, XML and JSON transformation, status tracking and output generation, to SFTP delivery.
  • Replaced a client's legacy market data pipeline. It led to an extended engagement and another statement of work.
  • Configured multi source reconciliations with reference data enrichment, rolling multi day processing, matching logic and exception reporting.
  • Wrote the specs and acceptance criteria, ran the client workshops and training, then supported UAT, release, go live and hypercare.
  • Wrote the SQL tables, views, indexes and deployment scripts.
  • Held over 70% billable utilisation in my last quarter, against a 60% target.
